Here are a few pictures of the latest pipe that I fabricated over the past two weeks. It is had made out of old growth cedar (stem), old growth maple (bowl), leather swatch and strips, turkey and sea gull feathers, metal thread. When I make a pipe, I meditate while creating the item in an attempt to instill a purpose, an intention, in order to direct or aim the mind toward a particular need.
As my daughter Kelsi leaves for Japan, I wanted her to have a something special that she could have and display, if she wishes, in her apartment that could help her "return home" if she needed to.
The pipe doesn't doesn't need to be smoked in order for it to be affective. The bowl and the stem are kept apart when not in use. The bowl or female energy is paired with the stem or male energy when the pipe is used in a ceremony invoking the four directions of the compass, downward for Mother Earth, upward for the Great Spirit, and finally with open arms invoking every one, including the pipe holder, physically present on earth and in Spirit.
The pipe contents, usually Mishma and Tobacco, when lit, inhaled, and exhaled is representative of the actual prayer and how it rises to the heavens, Spirit, and all those invited energies that are needed and used to help the user through the particular need or request.
The pipe doesn't need to be smoked in order for it to be useful. The pipe can be a vehicle for prayer or meditation if held when the bowl and stem are mated.
Enjoy the pictures. Feel free to email me at rogercampy@gmail.com. Peace to you!
