Let's get this straight... last time I checked congress was hung up on about $300,000,000 (3 Hundred Million Dollars) and the topic is... Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood, an organization that does much more than abortions.
Planned Parenthood, "is the nations leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate." Planned Parenthood provides low cost to free medical examinations and treatments for reproductive issues, rape, sexually transmitted diseases, and follow ups, women's health education, and is a community outreach organization, and yes the happen to provide legal abortions only if requested.
In the big scheme of things it is chump change! Its more like less than one cent of every $100 (one hundred dollars). Thanks again Gabe!
If the Government closes, 800,000 (8 HUNDRED THOUSAND) people will be involuntarily out of work and without a paycheck until our elected wind bags get off the stick and agree to do without something. 800,000 families will not have a paycheck all over Planned Parenthood funding.
Quite frankly this is getting me just a bit pissed off! According to an article published in "The American Independent" ( Super Rich )
"...[The Super Rich]... continue to exploit a controversial “carried interest” tax loophole that allows them to pay a maximum of 15 percent on the vast majority of their income, as opposed to the 35 percent that others in the top tax bracket are required to pay. How much money is that exactly?

Let's do the math shall we?
35% minus 15% is 20%. 20% of $1.84 Billion equals $368 Millon

So in short...
The big argument in Congress is whether to cut funding for Planned Parenthood and save $300 Million rather than fix the loop hole that allows the Government to collect taxes and gain positive revenue of $368 Million from the richest 175 CEO's in America?

Think of all the military that won't get paid if the gov't closes The fucking federal government is like playing a great big game of Twister. let's put right foot on green and left foot on ORANGE. Now put your right hand on purple while also placing your left hand on ORANGE. Let's screw up everyone. Let everyone play checkers and whenever you jump someone take a shot of (insert favorite alcoholic beverage. When you are Kinged you give your opponent a shot. If you jump a King you get 2 shots of (insert favorite alocolic beverage). and when you loose you are OUT. The winning party gets to make the decision as to what gets cut. Now that is what congress should do.
The military continues to get paid, as do the Senators, Congress, President, and the "essential personnel" that are required to keep the Government running. projects stop, non essential personell, and research stops (unless the research will negatively impact someone medically.)
I'd also like to add a post script:
The $300 Million funding for Planned Parenthood DOES NOT INCLUDE FUNDING FOR ABORTIONS! The Federal Gov't is prohibited from funding abortions, albeit in a few rare cases.
